The Clean Point: More than a year offering its services.
Hundreds of people make use of the Clean Point, a free service offered by the council which is key to the smooth functioning of our society.
The Clean Point of Álora is in the Carretera del Valle, at the height of the Haza Llana. For some, their location has been a source of criticism, but we must bear in mind that this Clean Point is still a dump, although controlled. In addition the entry of trucks and cars is continuing, so the place can not be better.
There are many people who daily go to point to deposit clean oils, packaging, batteries, wood… Also, Álora's Town hall offers a service of withdrawal of materials, the only thing that has to be done is to report to the Town hall of the day in which the materials will be deposited in the containers, in order that a qualified truck gathers them and takes them to the Clean Point.
The materials that are separated for onward shipment to the recycling plant Antequera are of a very diverse nature; industrial oils, household solvents, paper, metals ... According to the staff working there it is the wood material that is most received for recycling.
The work being done is very important for our people since we remove from the streets elements that might constitute a danger to any walking and, of course, we offer a free more ecological and civic option to those that, for example, throw rubble or old refrigerators in the fields.
It is worth noting that all this is done in a way free. Something that, according to the staff working there, is a source of amazement for many foreigners who come to deposit materials, as in other countries they will have to pay for this service.
With regard to the above, it is foreigners who seem to be more aware of the importance of recycling; cans of soft drinks, magazines, bottles with domestic oil used ... Many of the materials are continuously brought to our point clear. Although lately, also Spaniards we are encouraging recycling and use of the Clean Point.
